OBITUARY
“Well done, good and faithful servant” - Matthew 25:23
Rev. V. P. Ashwal was born on May 03, 1948, at Karkala, Udupi, to Mr. Sanjeev Ashwal and Mrs. Devadathi Ashwal. Answering God’s call to ministry, he joined the Karnataka Central Diocese of the Church of South India and was ordained to the sacred ministry in the year 1976.
Rev. Ashwal was united in holy matrimony with Mrs. Janet Ashwal, and together they were blessed with two children: Mr. Sandesh Ashwal and Mrs. Sushma Ashwal. As a devoted husband and loving father, he nurtured his family with faith, humility, and steadfast commitment to Christian values.
During his long and faithful ministry, Rev. Ashwal served several congregations across the Diocese with dedication and pastoral care. His ministerial journey included service at Yesukrupalaya, Rajajinagar; Churches in Gauribidanur; Tumkur Urban; Tomlinson Church, Sawdaypura; William Arthur Memorial Church, Gubbi; Christha Krupalaya Church, Kunigal; Bethany Church, Chennapattana; St. Thomas Church, Ramanagaram; Sawday Memorial Church, Devanur; Stean Memorial Church, Kuripalaya; Bethel Church, Bethalur; Christha Teja Devalaya, Tiptur; Wesley Church, Tumkur; CSI Vocational Centre; Churches in Doddaballapur; Bishop Gill Church; Christ Church, Chikkaballapur; Grace Church; Shaffer Memorial Church; Shanthi Church, Wilson Garden; CSI Covenant Church, Koramangala; and Hudson Memorial Church. Through these ministries, he touched countless lives with his pastoral leadership, spiritual guidance, and compassionate service.
In addition to his pastoral responsibilities, Rev. Ashwal faithfully served the Diocese in several important leadership roles. He was elected two terms as the Chairperson of the Tumkur Area Council and two terms as the Vice President of the Karnataka Central Diocese. He also served with distinction as the Ministerial Secretary and Bishop’s Commissary, contributing significantly to the administration and spiritual life of the Diocese. Furthermore, he was actively involved in several boards and committees within the Diocese and in various ecumenical organizations, where his wisdom, integrity, and commitment were widely respected.
Rev. V. P. Ashwal will be remembered as a humble servant of God, a devoted shepherd to his congregations, and a faithful leader within the Church. His life of service stands as a testimony to his deep faith and unwavering commitment to the mission of Christ.
