St. John’s High School Graduation Event
Graduation, a special event to mark the completion of a journey, was celebrated in St. John’s High School on 25th January, 2019. The Thanksgiving Service was held in St. John’s Church at 4.00 pm. The service was led by Rev. G. Wilson, Presbyter-in-charge, St. John’s Church and Vice-Chairman, Board of Management, St. John’s High School. The Speaker for the occasion was Rt. Rev. Dr. Prasana Kumar Samuel, Bishop, Karnataka Central Diocese, Chairman, Board of Management, St. John’s High School. He spoke about the inner light in each of us and the importance of letting the light shine before others. The service was also presided by Principal In-charge, Dr. Mrs. Lavanya Mithran.
The Graduation programme began at 6.00 pm and commenced with a procession led by the dignitaries, followed by the graduating class of 2019, into the quadrangle. The school song was sung and God’s Blessings were invoked through an invocation dance and opening prayer by Rev. G. Wilson. Dr. Mrs. Lavanya Mithran then welcomed the gathering.
A special number ,‘You Raise Me Up’ was rendered by the outgoing students of class X and XII, in their melodious voices which pierced through the night air. School Captain, Abishek J Stephen Harris then bid farewell to the school in his speech, wherein he reminisced his twelve year long journey in the school. After this, the teachers rendered a special number, ‘He’ll do it again’. The Bishop, Rt. Rev. Dr. Prasana Kumar Samuel then brought special greetings from the Karnataka Central Diocese.
School Vice-Captain, Rahul R Sankar, presented his outgoing speech and spoke about how much he had grown since he first came to the school as a toddler. He recalled special moments and concluded by saying that he will always be grateful to St. John’s High School for who he has become today. The Chief Guest for the evening was, Dr. S John Mano Raj, Associate Professor, Indian Institute of Plantation Management, Bangalore. He addressed the gathering by stating the economic and environmental condition of Earth. He then proceeded to state the five levels of leadership as told by Jim Collins and urged each one to use these tips to contribute to saving the planet and being future leaders.
Thereafter, the time came for the Student Leaders to lay down office. The Captains handed over their respective flags back to the School and then the graduating class of 2019, recited the pledge after the Principal In-charge, promising to uphold the ideals of the school and to live a life worthy of the values imparted to them. The dignitaries then lit the lamp and its flame was passed on to the students by the class teachers which was symbolic of spreading the light into the lives of the students. While the candles were being lit, the choir sang the song, ‘Just a Closer Walk with Thee’.
School Girl Captain, Renata Nathania , proposed the vote of thanks expressing gratitude to all those instrumental in her journey in the school for the past twelve years. The closing prayer and Benediction was brought by the Bishop. The curtains came down on a truly solemn occasion with the recession of the graduating students holding up their candles to light up the world.
