A Brief Report on the Lenten Retreat CSI KCD - 2022
A “Lenten Retreat” was organised for the Clergy of CSI KCD on the 1st of March 2022 at “The Bishop Cotton Academy of Management”, Yelahanka. Around 67 Clergy from all the four areas participated in the retreat. The retreat started with a prayer by Rev. Dr. Vincent Vinodh Kumar, the Secretary of the Diocese, followed by a time of singing led by the Ministerial Candidates of Karnataka Central Diocese. Our Bishop Rt. Rev. Dr. Prasanna Kumar Samuel led the meditation on the topic, “Cross - A call for vicarious suffering”. The meditation pressed upon the significance of lent, which calls us for an experience of remorse, repentance and change of mind. Bishop, further, reflected lenten season as a spiritual journey from Ashes to Easter, Commitment to Commendation and from Death to Life.
After the devotion, Mrs. Vasanthi Saduri, the Superintendent of Arpana Special School, briefed about the ministries of Arpana and requested the gathering to support the project by participating in its ministries and also raise funds towards the sustenance of the School. A Kit containing Arpana products and brochures was given to the clergy to spread an awareness among the congregation.
Prof. Rev. Dr. Sahayadhas, Department of Theology and Ethics from the United Theological College, Bangalore, was the facilitator for the Lenten retreat. The facilitator engaged with the theme of Cross under three important titles as follows:
- Crucified God amidst Suffering
- Church amidst Suffering
- Reassurance of Life amidst Suffering
The presentations were profound and deeply theological. The clergy participated in dialogue with the facilitator and raised their queries and also complimented the presentation. The Lenten retreat culminated with a “Eucharist Service” led by Rev. Christy Gnanadasan, Convener for Ministerial Commitee. Prof. Sahayadhas was the preacher and Rev. Shylashree, the residing pastor in Yelahanka, was the celebrant.
The Vote of thanks was pronounced by Rev. Dr. Vincent Vinod Kumar and the day came to an end with a group photograph. The Diocese is thankful to Prof. Sam Martin, the Principal of the Academy, for hosting the retreat.
