Graduation Ceremony at the Bishop Cotton Girls’ School

The Graduation Ceremony at the Bishop Cotton Girls’ School took place on the 24th January, 2019 was staged in all its grandeur. The ceremony saw 400+ students graduating from the School they fondly called their second home.

The theme “Phenomenal Woman – The Girl That Is YOU!” resonated in the valedictorian speeches.

The Chief Guest for this solemn occasion was Dr. Mrs. Nirupama Menon Rao , former Foreign Secretary of Indian and Former Ambassador of India to China and U.S.A. Her inspiring address exhorted the graduating batch of young women to be the best at what they do and drive towards excellence and encouraged them to consider the Civil Services as a career option. She also mentioned her connection with the school as her two sisters graduated from Cottons.

Rt. Rev. Dr. P.K. Samuel addressed the gathering and blessed the outgoing students. In his address to the students he reminded them that each of them is “phenomenal” in their own ways and encouraged them to live up to the theme today. The Bishop referred to Maya Angelou’s poem “The Phenomenal Woman” where she infuses confidence in women and challenges them to believe in themselves.

iddhi Gopinath, the School captain spoke on behalf of the graduating batch and her mother Mrs. Chandrika Gopinath congratulated and thanked the faculty and parents for their unending support.

The ceremony concluded with the lighting of the lamp accompanied by the melodious rendition of “Shine Jesus Shine”.
