Lamp Lighting Ceremony 2022

The Lamp Lighting Ceremony is an auspicious occasion in every Nurse’s life and is held in reverence to Florence Nightingale, the ‘Lady with the Lamp.’ Nursing is the only profession that follows Lamp Lighting Ceremony. Light, as a symbol of Knowledge, removes Ignorance and is a lasting Wealth by which lots could be achieved. It formally recognises the Nursing Students’ entry into the Nursing Profession.

The Lamp Lighting and Oath Taking Ceremony of CSI Hospital School of Nursing, Bangalore, was held on Thursday, the12th of May 2022, for the 67th Batch of General Nursing and Midwifery Students.

The Ceremony was grace by Presiding Dignitary, Rt. Rev. Dr. Prasanna Kumar Samuel, Bishop, Karnataka Central Diocese, and Chairman, CSI Hospital Board of Management. The Chief Guest was Mrs. Helena Meurial Hilkiah, Secretary, Board of Nursing Education, Nurses League of CMAI, South India Branch. The Guests of Honour, Dr. N. D. Solomon Raju, Diocesan Treasurer, Rev. Y. Justin, Bangalore Civil Area Chairman, Mr. J. Victor and Mr. Louis Rao, Members, Hospital Board of Management, Dr. Christy Glory Shanthi, Principal, Cathedral Composite PU College & High School, Bangalore, were felicitated.

Rev. Dr. Dexter S. Maben, Vice President, KCD, Chairman, Medical Committee and Administrator, CSI Hospital, Dr. Sunil Kumar V. R, Medical Superintendent, Mr. Gladson Kundar, Treasurer, were present.

The Ceremony was hosted by Ms. Sandhya, Senior Tutor, School of Nursing. The programme was inaugurated with Opening Prayer by Rev. Shanthi Anandaraj, Chaplain, and the Invocation Song by the Students, School of Nursing. Mrs. Hepsiba Ruban, Principal, School of Nursing, welcomed the gathering.

Mrs. Joy Hena Charles, Nursing Superintendent, lit the Florence Nightingale Lamp and the Students marched forward to light their individual lamps. 35 General Nursing and Midwifery Students were inducted into the Nursing Profession. They took the Oath led by the Chief Guest, Mrs. Helena Meurial Hilkiah. The Students sang the Song of Dedication as they dedicated themselves to the Nursing Profession. Our beloved Bishop the Rt. Rev. Dr. Prasanna Kumar Samuel, offered the Prayer of Dedication. Mrs. Helena Meurial Hilkiah delivered the message on the significance of Lamp Lighting. Dr. Sunil Kumar V. R, Medical Superintendent addressed the students.

Our Bishop, Rt. Rev. Dr. Prasana Kumar Samuel, Bishop, addressed the gathering and stressed on the significance of the Nursing Profession, and recognised the selfless service and sacrifice of nurses especially during the Covid19 Pandemic.

Mementos were distributed to the Staff and Students by the Officers of the Diocese, Bangalore Civil Area Chairman, and the Members of the Hospital Board Management.

The Vote of Thanks was proposed by Mrs. Deepa, Senior Tutor, School of Nursing.

The Closing Prayer was offered by Rev. Dr. Dexter. S. Maben, Vice President and Administrator.

The Benediction was pronounced by the Bishop, Rt. Rev. Dr. Prasanna Kumar Samuel.
