International Nurses’ Day Celebration 2022
International Nurses Day is celebrated every year on May 12th globally to honour and celebrate the contributions of Nurses everywhere. This Day was chosen by the International Council of Nurses and has been observed officially since the year 1974. International Nurses Day 2022 acknowledges the fact that like doctors, nurses have also become heroes for saving and healing patients amid the widespread COVID-19 Pandemic. It also has a historic significance as the day remembers the contribution of one of the significant social reformer who dedicated her life for the improvement of Health Sector.
The Celebration of this Special Day in our Hospital was graced by our Bishop, Rt. Rev. Dr. Prasana Kumar Samuel, Chairman, Hospital Board of Management, as the Presiding Dignitary. The Guests of Honour were Dr. N. D. Solomon Raju, Diocesan Treasurer, Rev. Y. Justin, Bangalore Civil Area Chairperson, Mr. J. Victor and Mr. Louis Rao, Members, Hospital Board of Management, and in the presence of Rev. Dr. Dexter S. Maben, Vice President KCD and Administrator CSI Hospital, Dr. Sunil Kumar V. R, Medical Superintendent, Mr. Gladson Kundar, Treasurer.
The Ceremony was hosted by Mrs. Deepa, Senior Tutor, School of Nursing. The Opening Prayer was offered by Rev. Shanthi Anandaraj, the Chaplain. Mrs. Stella, Staff Nurse, welcomed the gathering and Dr. Sunil Kumar, Medical Superintendent, brought greetings to all the Staff Nurses and Nursing Students of our Hospital.
Our Bishop, Rt. Rev. Dr. Prasana Kumar Samuel, inaugurated the event and addressed the gathering. He said that nurses are dedicated professionals and they are the strong pillars of the Healthcare System. They work day and night for the well-being of people. Bishop enumerated about COVID19 Pandemic, which affected the whole world for more than two years. Nurses have been fighting this deadly Pandemic, and as Covid Warriors, played and are still playing a crucial role in the fight against the disease. These forefront warriors put in their best efforts and even risk their lives along with the doctors. While the doctors have been playing a significant role in curing the patients, the nurses spend their days and nights in taking care of the patients.
The International Council of Nurses (ICN) Theme this year is, Nurses: A Voice to Lead. Their aim is to Invest in Nursing and respect rights to secure global health to help nurses, other healthcare providers, governments and international organisations, and turn global strategy into meaningful local action and improved clinical practice on the ground.
Bishop quoted ICN President Dr. Pamela Cipriano: “Nurses have given their all in the fight against COVID-19 and Ebola in disaster areas and in war zones. Yet, they continue to face under-staffing, lack of protection, heavy workloads, and low wages. It is time now to take real action to address workplace safety, protect nurses and safeguard their physical and mental health.”
Mrs. Helena Meurial Hilkiah, Secretary, BNESIB CMAI, said a few words about Mrs. Dora, 92 Years, former Nursing Leader of Evangelical Nurses Fellowship of India [ENFI], now residing in our Geriatric Ward. Mrs. Helena remembered her life, celebrating her gift of life and her contribution to ENFI. On behalf of CMAI and ENFI, she appreciated and thanked the Management and Staff of Geriatric Ward, CSI Hospital, for taking care of Mrs. Dora. As part of Nurses Day Celebrations, our Bishop, Rt. Rev. Dr. Prasanna Kumar Samuel, honoured Mrs. Dora.
Cultural Programme - Candle Dance by Staff Nurses, Choreography by Nursing Students, Nurses Anthem and Group Song by Staff and Students, was presented
Best Ward Award was given to Geriatric Ward. Gifts were distributed to Covid Warriors of our Hospital.
The Vote of Thanks was proposed by Mrs. Joy Hena Charles, Nursing Superintendent, CSI Hospital.
The Closing Prayer was offered by Rev. Dr. Dexter S. Maben, Vice President and Administrator.
The Benediction was pronounced by our Bishop, Rt. Rev. Dr. Prasanna Kumar Samuel.
