The Graduation of the Class of 2020 took place on the 24th January, 2020 amidst much pomp and splendor. Dr. Mrs. Sudha Murty was the Chief Guest and therefore, delivered the Valedictorian Address. The Rt. Rev. Dr. P.K. Samuel, Bishop of the Karnataka Central Diocese and Chairman, Board of Management was the Presiding Dignitary. Officers of the Diocese, Members of the Board of Management, Members of the Executive & Education Committee of the KCD, the Old Cottonians Association, Ex-Staff, parents and well wishers comprised the 1800 strong gathering.
This year we had 275 ICSE and 107 ISC students graduating. Draped in their pista green and peach sarees they presented a pretty sight against the backdrop which carried a very appropriate theme “Women are the Torchbearers of humanity”.
The programme commenced with Rev. Dr. Vincent Vinod Kumar invoking the blessings of the Almighty followed by the School Song.
Disha Chakravarthy, a student of the graduating batch rendered a powerful and melodious invocation hymn called “Prayer”.
Dr. Mrs. Lavanya Mithran introduced the Chief Guest and gave the students practical advice as they journey through life. With the Principal leading the batch of 2020 a solemn pledge was taken to swerve neither to the right nor to the left.
Speaking eloquently about the myriad roles a woman plays in life, Dr. Mrs. Murty emphasized the need to carry out any task if it is “legally and ethically right”. She also encouraged the students to remember their alma mater when they achieve positions of power and eminence. Success has no definite formula she said, and differs in each stage of life.
She attributed her sound knowledge of Kannada to a godly missionary called Rev. Kittel who is the father of the Kannada dictionary.
Rt. Rev. Dr. P.K. Samuel in his address, cited the examples of Indian women who had left an indelible mark and exhorted our girls to soar high and reach for the stars.
The Choirs of Std. X & XII added flavor to the evening with their songs “Hall of Fame” and “Time of our lives”.
School Captain Lakshmi S. Nair recalled her memories at Cottons, while her father Mr. S. Harish Kumar appreciated the secular and unbiased outlook of the School.
Adopting an attitude of gratitude, Priya P. Sadhwani, the Vice Captain proposed the Vote of Thanks and acknowledged the contribution of the entire Cottonian machinery that made her journey so memorable.
The curtains were drawn on a sombre, meaningful graduation ceremony with Rev. Christy Rajkumar saying the closing prayer and Bishop pronouncing the benediction.
