Chedvah 2025: An Inter-Church Festival for the Elderly
Chedvah—a Hebrew word meaning Joy—was chosen as the name of the Inter-Church Festival for the Elderly, organised by the Care for the Elderly Department under the Socio-Economic Committee of the CSI Karnataka Central Diocese. The festival was held on 23rd August 2025 at St. John’s Church Campus, under the inspiring theme, “The Joy of the Lord is your Strength” (Nehemiah 8:10).
This initiative was designed to provide a time of fellowship, celebration, and encouragement for the elders of our congregations. Around 200 elders representing 25 churches across Bangalore came together for this unique gathering.
The programme was inaugurated at 9:00 a.m. by Rev. Satish Timothy Paul, Vice President of CSI KCD. He was joined by DrN. D. Solomon Raju, Diocesan Treasurer, Rev. Theodore William, Assistant Secretary, Rev. Alwyn Herbet, Convener of the Socio-Economic Concerns Committee and other pastors.
The highlight of Chedvah 2025 was the vibrant participation of the elderly in five competitions: Walk the Bible, Bible Quiz, Pick and Speak, Cooking without Fire, and Singing (solo/group). The elders, with great enthusiasm, participated in a sportive spirit, bringing youthful energy to every event. The church campus, decorated with antique-themed spaces and photo booths, created an atmosphere of nostalgia and joy, reminding participants of the golden memories of their earlier years.
At the end of the competitions, St. John’s Church emerged as the overall winners, while Memorial Church, Whitefield secured the runners-up position.
Indeed, Chedvah 2025 was more than an event—it was a celebration of life, faith, and fellowship. We express our gratitude to the Bishop, Rt. Rev. Dr. Vincent Vinod Kumar, Diocesan Secretary and Chairperson of the SECC, Rev. Christopher Samuel J, Convener of SECC, Rev. Alwyn Herbet for their vision, encouragement and support.
