Rev. Niramala Vasanthakumar
Rev. NirmalaVasanthakumar, born on 21.3.1949, Presbyter CSI - Karnataka Central Diocese passed on into eternal glory on 7thMarch 2019. She was the wife of Rt. Rev. S. Vasanthakumar, former Moderator CSI, and Bishop, CSI KCD. She leaves behind Amar, Preethi, Arpana, Rajeev, Varun and Vivan, and large number of family members, colleagues, friends, members of the congregations, that she served and the diocesan family at large. She has been a constant source of support and strength to Bishop Vasanthakumar in his Pastoral and Episcopal ministry.
She served the Diocese for about four decades until she retired in 2014. Rev. Nirmala joined KCD in the year 1974 as a women’s worker and the first woman worker after Sr. Betty Paul. She served both rural and urban congregations. Some of the congregations she served are Eaton Memorial Church, Karunalaya Church, St. Matthew’s Church, St. John’s Church and Kothanur CSI Church, where she retired in 2016. Rev. Nirmala was a pioneer, forerunner and model for women’s ministry in the diocese and the CSI. Apart from her pastoral responsibilities, she served as the convenor of the Pre-School Committee and provided leadership to the Sneha Jyothi Trainning Centre, Member of the Ministerial Committee, Socio-economic Concerns Committee, Nurture and Witness Committee, CSI Synod Executive Committee and represented CSI at various ecumenical forums. She was invited as a resource person to various conferences and seminars. She also served as Executive Secretary of the NCCI and President of the Association of the Theological Trained Women in India (ATTWI) and served as member of the Executive Committee of the United Theological College and was part of the Committee to revise the BD Curriculum. Her involvement in Human Rights and Women Empowerment movements and commitment at the grassroots is great example of her commitment to stay and work with the people, irrespective of their identities.

The funeral service will be held on Friday, 8th March 2019 at 10.00 am at Kothanur CSI Church,Hennur Main Road, Byrathi Cross, followed by burial at Gate # 1, Hosur Road Cemetery, Bangalore..
