Diocesan Higher Education Scholarship - 2023

The disbursement of the Diocesan Higher Education Scholarships to students from churches in Bangalore City and KGF areas was organised on Saturday, the 19th of August 2023 from 10 am in St. John’s School Auditorium, Bangalore.

The programme commenced with prayer and a brief introduction by Rev. Dr. Vincent Vinod Kumar, the Diocesan Secretary. Rev. Navin K John, the presbyter-in-charge of St. John’s Church welcomed the gathering and Mrs. Angeline Wilson, Principal of St. John’s High School felicitated the Bishop, diocesan officers and other dignitaries.

The Diocesan Treasurer Dr. N. D. Solomon Raju stated that an amount of Rs. 51,19,000, is distributed to 580 students from Bangalore City and KGF areas. He announced that the Diocese this year is awarding Rs. 4000/- to all recipients pursuing Job Oriented Courses, Rs. 5000/- to PUC students, Rs. 8000/- to Degree students, Rs. 15000/- to Post Graduate students and Rs. 20000/- to all Professional and Merit Students.

Rev. J. Christopher Samuel, the Assistant Secretary, emphasised on the rich historic legacy of the Diocesan Education ministry, which spans over two centuries. He, also, encouraged the beneficiaries to reciprocate the generosity, received from the church. Rev. Paul Dinakaran, the chairperson of the Bangalore City Area Council, read the scripture lesson from Acts 20: 32-25.

Rt. Rev. Dr. Prasana Kumar Samuel, the Bishop in KCD, spoke about the liberative potential of Education in a context of education being commercialised. He reiterated that the Diocese is interested in the holistic development of students from socially and economically disadvantaged communities. He stated that the diocese advocates the availability and accessibility of education to all students. He encouraged the students to carve a meaningful future for themselves through dedication and hard work.

Rev. E. George Jayaprabhu, the Associate Treasurer, briefed the gathering about the arrangements made to disburse the Scholarships. He thanked the Bishop, Diocesan Officers, Convener of the Education Committee and the members of the Scholarship Committee for their initiative to award the scholarships. He also thanked the Principal, Vice Chairman, Treasurer and Members of the Board of Management of St. John’s School for hosting the event. He appreciated the efforts of the Diocesan Office Staff towards the disbursement. The programme concluded with prayer by Rev. Dexter. S. Maben, the Vice President, and benediction by the Bishop.
